Interlouper!

Interlouper!

Another unplanned appearance in our garden.

We did grow poppies last year – they were lovely… and lilac. We left the seedheads on over winter. No lilac poppies have grown this year.

But this beauty popped up in another part of our garden. Where did it come from?

Who cares? It’s phenomenal.

Single Lilac #2

Single Lilac #2

This is the same image as yesterday, with the background removed. I quite like the effect, although I wouldn’t use it often.

Frosty seedhead

Frosty seedhead

At the end of the gardening season, we decided to leave the seedheads on the poppies. The main reason for this was to allow the plants to self-seed.

I’m very glad we left the seedheads, rather than cutting them back. The addition of frost helped me to appreciate the beauty of their form. Even a brown, decaying, dead thing can be beautiful.
