Top of the pile
Another seabird image – this gull seemed to have a mean look about it. Presumably to deter any contenders for top spot.

Lift your eyes
This shot developed as I was trying to compose it. Initially, I was concentrating on the cormorant sitting on a harbour post and spreading its wings. But, I couldn’t get close enough to make it the main/only subject of my shot. Then, the sunlight caught the wind turbines in the distance, and I noticed the fence running right through the shot. And that felt like a much better image.
And, after pressing the shutter, I decided to call it a day. Those dark clouds in the background were heading my way… and they arrived before I was back under cover! To be fair, it’s not the first time that I’ve been soaked in Irvine.

Alterantive autumn
It’s not all about leaves and stunning colours.
Honesty (lunaria) seeds always amaze me – they are so much nicer than the flowers!

Autumn in the city
A different city… I’m taking a wee break from my London photos, but still thinking about autumn. The magnificent spire of St Matthews Church against a stunning blue sky, with some autumn colour in the foreground.

Blending in
While I was taking photos of ‘Silent Autumn’, a few people came up. One or two stood aside; others came and went. Some people lingered, which was fine.
This woman hung around for a while, facing me. So, rather than waiting for her to move away, I decided to include her. While processing the image, I realised that her hair colour seemed to tone with the sculpture and the prunus trees!

Silent autumn
We went into Regent’s Park for a wander – mainly to take a look at Frieze Sculpture. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed. Last year I thought it was great; this year.. not so much. I guess Art is in the eye of the beholder.
I did like this piece by Tomás Saraceno. It’s called Silent Autumn, and it seemed to fit where it was placed. The backdrop of a group of prunus trees was perfect.

An oasis of calm
Maybe not as serene as yesterday’s image. But, in its context, possibly more needed.
I spotted this scene as we were eating breakfast. And, I noticed ho people were rushing past. That’s understandable – the photo was taken just after 0800 on a Friday morning in St Pancras Square. People were scurrying to/from railway stations, getting on with their days. And, yet, here was a lovely water feature; an invitation to pause, slow down, and reflect… just for a few moments.
The fallen leaves added to the magic for me…. before I headed off to get on with my day!

A moment of calm
The Kyoto Garden was very busy when we visited (at lunchtime). But it was still possible to find some tranquility. You just need to know where to go… in the Kyoto Garden and in life!

Stunning
I’m partial to an acer. This one, in the Kyoto Garden, had spectacular colours.
